Adopted Ancestors

Adopted ancestors are difficult for me to leave behind when found at flea markets and garage sales, so they usually come home with me.

What were their dreams?

What were their trials and tribulations?

What  joys did they experience?

If they could  speak to us...

What stories would they tell?

Happy Dance July

Even though it isn’t the end of July yet, I have again broken into my Happy Dance!

Actually, some of my readers have told me they danced with this same guy in Buenos Aires.  Apparently he gets around so it must be true what they say about Latin Lovers  men!

But, back to the reason for the Happy Dance !
I  recently  entered a fun Giveaway at Remodelaholic .   This blog is all about  DIY, featuring  projects they work on  as well as posting projects other bloggers submit.    They host Parties too!
Back to the giveaway.   It was a lot of fun :  at least for me it was because,  guess what?  I won a $100 gift card to Z-Gallerie,  compliments of Hometalk, a community network of pros and regular people who love to talk about home improvement and decorating!     Now, what shall I choose…that shouldn’t pose a real problem!

Jeannie at  Inside Jeannies’ Bottle, is a blogger who also  crochets, creating some lovely products for sale.  Ok, do you want to see what I received in the mail from her?  Of course you do!   A  gorgeous shawl.

And a great big shout-out to Kim of Savvy Southern Style  for featuring my St.  Malo post.

I am absolutely delighted to be able to put  this on my blog.

Thank you! Thank you to these very Special  People!

I’ve said it before, but it can't be said enough:  Bloggers are the nicest people!   I am so FORTUNATE to have met you all!

Until next time, Honey

Rooster Comes Out of Hiding

Since it’s too hot to do much of anything,  I dug around today in my canvases and found this one  (there are stacks of them).  After wiping the cobwebs off locating it, I decided that I like it now much better than when it was first painted, or it could  just be the heat playing with my brain.
Maybe I’ll frame him and find a place in the kitchen for him to live a little.

What's In a Name

 Who am I?

Is this too close?

OK.  Let's step back.
Is he friendly or scary looking?
A garden gnome or water elf ?
Not a medusa  even though he is stone.

Is he splashing water on his face
to keep cool?

 His hands are nice.

His bowl  is checked  ever so often, but so far  I've have found no coins.
Although he has been  standing around  against this wall  for several  years, he still doesn’t have a name.

What would you suggest?

Update:   One of my readers, Babs of Upstairs, Downstairs,  suggested he is a green man.  A search revealed that is what  he is.  A Green Man is a sculpture, drawing, or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves.   Branches or vines may sprout from the nose, mouth, nostrils or other parts of the face and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit.

Hen Party

The previous post made me remember a Sunny Saturday in Sidney, Australia, when I saw these adorable girls in matching outfits walking around in Angel Wings.  Shyness is not in my nature (I confess), so I  ask them about it and they replied they were having a “Hen Party” !   It was an afternoon event for the Bride and her Bridesmaids.  Luckily,  they were not shy either and agreed to pose for a picture!

Bridal Party Gift

I recently  attended Stephanie of Angelic Accents’ annual  Wedding Blog Party with my post about a Wedding in Bruges, Belgium.   It was the Wedding Party of the Year, my friends!   And I hope you didn't miss it!    Guess What?  I won a gift!    Opening  it made me feel like a bride....

At a wedding shower!

Leaving the wrappings and tulle in my wake,

each of the little packages were opened with care, revealing…

Sachets,  Earrings,  Bookmarks with Charms,  Needlepoint in a Frame, Tags, Little Pillows , Crocheted Doily and a Cake Topper!    Everything a bride needs!

Stephanie’s pictures  of these lovely items are so much better than mine, but then,  just like a Bushing Bride, I’m  so excited!

 Sigh…………..
Thank you Stephanie!

Hugs, Honey

She Loves Sea Shells

My living room and I have been  “beach dreaming” .   So we (my imaginary housekeeper)  gathered up some collected shells...

Put them in a large Silver Shell

Added  a bargain Silver tray ($1.99),  unpolished.   Layered on top is a vintage crochet piece.

Blue books were used to contrast with the whiteness of the coral, collected long ago.

Isn’t it delicate?

A coconut picked up by the sweetest little boy  many years ago brings back sweet memories.  When plucked from under the palm it was green.   Gradually it turned brown and was treated to a coat of poly.

More  collected shells went into a large apothecary jar

Starfish in another

There are usually a couple of Art books laying around as well as a stack of magazines add to the mix.

Clean, (but maybe a bit of shell overload),  it satisfies the  desire for the “beach”  for a little while, or at least a few minutes.

Sweet Land of Liberty

Happy 4th of July,  the Birthday of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence!
I am so grateful to live in a Nation whose Forefathers and original Patriots had the courage and foresight to envision our  great Republic.

As we enjoy our celebrations, parades, flags, patriotic songs  and fireworks, we should never forget what these Wise Patriots created for us.
And we should also remember the advise and warnings they have given us about our nation.

“The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.”                               - Samuel Adams 1722-1803

Have a Happy 4th of July!!
God Bless the U.S.A.

Copycat!

After searching and searching through magazines to find something I could copy for Debbie’s  Magazine Copycat Challenge, I came up brain dead challenged and empty handed.    And she really had me going upon throwing down the gauntlet with that “No Guts, No Glory” thing.  I felt so embarrassed.  Then suddenly, tonight (at the last minute) I remembered  a copycat creation by the  very talented Shannon of  Vintage Sparkle Chic.  Unable to reach her,  this post will Feature Her!

So, here it is:
Look what she created!

This is the inspiration picture that she took with her camera phone!

Isn’t she a Fabulous Copycat!   Please stop by to see her  in real  Blog Life and leave her a comment or  compliment.  After all, it is her creation!

Sure  hope we can enter in absentia  for another blogger.

Until next time, Honey

Stylish Reveal

I was recently  awarded the Stylish  Blogger Award by Rosemary at Villabarnes.       I  don’t have a speech prepared,  but  appreciate the award and accept it with gratitude!

The recipient is to acknowledge the award presenter  and pass it on to 7-8 bloggers.  Oh, and the other thing,  the recipient is to “reveal”   7-8 things about herself.  So, here goes:
1.  I  am not good at revealing,  so I may be telling you things you already know.
2.  I never, ever  forward chain letters emails (who writes letters  anymore?),  but will make an exception in this case.
3.  At long last, I have finally  told my daughter-in-law,  sisters,  nieces and other close  family members and friends that I have a Blog.
4.  I am a totally recovered brick and mortar retail store owner.
5.  I am really  a good listener.  You hear a lot of stories in the retail business.  I could write a book !    Seriously!   You would not believe some of the things I’ve been told.
6.  I’m really a brunette under all these highlights.
7.  I married   one of my high school  sweetheart.  Just kidding, Sweetheart.   You were the only one.
8.  I’m holding back.  A  girl has to save some mystery for the future

I feel like I’m at the Academy Awards, but I’m not dressed up in a fancy gown or jewels,   just an old tee shirt.    Although you  are all Stylish Bloggers,  this award in Presented to:
